Meet Renita Casey
Teacher Ambassador
I am fortunate enough to both live and teach in Groton after moving here from Massachusetts 19 years ago. It is an honor to be a member of the Groton Public School System because I have been given a place to live my philosophy of trying to make the world a better place. I do this by living, teaching and volunteering in my community. I have been given many professional opportunities to perfect my craft. Training is provided for new initiatives, but I have also been supported when I found training that personally interested me in my quest to be a life-long learner.
One of Groton Public School’s most powerful assets is its diverse student population. The families here include people from many different economic and cultural backgrounds. This diversity is even more unique as we also have the Coast Guard and Navy Base close in our community. Every day we have the privilege of working with military families to educate their children.
I am proud to be a member of a wonderful team of professionals helping to teach well rounded, caring, educated citizens. Crazy to think I get to do this all while living in one of the most beautiful and interesting historical areas in Connecticut.

Why I Teach
I am the product of hard working parents who encouraged me to seize the opportunity to try something new at the age of 22 when the factory I was working at closed. I am proud to say I am a first generation college graduate. This drives me to show my students that with the right mindset and supportive people, you can meet any challenges that come your way.
I am inspired every day by the many administrators, teachers, support staff and community members who help me to provide the necessary supports to help my students grow as learners and caring citizens. There is nothing more rewarding as a teacher than when a student has that ah ha moment. For me, this moment is made more special because I am are there day in and day out witnessing the effort and hard work students put in to reach social, academic or behavioral goals. Lastly, I am inspired by the students who walk through my door because they have as much to teach me as I to teach them every day.
